The Newark Country Club opened in 1950s as a private social club with an 18-hole golf course. No more than 5 minutes west of central Newark's hustle and bustle, the country club was established adjacent to the middle-class Oaklands neighborhood. The Newark Country Club and its surrounding neighborhoods served the growing population of professionals moving into town in the 1960s and 1970s. In 2009 The Newark Country Club was looking to relocate to a new site.
