Delaware Orthophotography The State of Delaware has made available statewide orthophotography for numerous years, from 1937 through the present. Orthophotography is simply aerial imagery where the geometric distortions (due to camera tilt, terrain relief, and other image acquisition distortions) have been corrected. Orthophotography data also usually go through other types of preprocessing, such as radiometric correction, noise correction and georeferencing. In the end, you have a great resource for GIS vector extraction or base mapping. Below is a list of aerial imagery data currently available at RDMS. Data are available on CDs, DVDs, or external (FireWire or USB) hard drives. Research & Data Management Services (RDMS) is the distribution point of the Delaware orthophotography and other aerial imagery for faculty, staff and students at the University of Delaware. The Delaware Office of State Planning Coordination (OSPC) handles all non-UD requests for the imagery. The Delaware DataMIL also serves statewide imagery as ArcIMS services (server: datamil.delaware.gov). RDMS also serves state-wide imagery through ArcIMS image services (Use server: maps.rdms.udel.edu). The ArcMap 9.1 document and ArcReader 9.1 document contains embedded links to the ArcIMS orthoindex and aerial imagery services. (To open an ArcReader PMF file, you will need the free ArcReader viewer from ESRI.) The Delaware Orthophotography Index Viewer serves individual orthophotography files to the UD community though a web-based, user-friendly interface.
