Anatomy of an Google mapping site.



What are the parts of the GM template and what can I change?

  • BANNER - The banner is made up of a background image. You can create your own banner to be placed here.

  • LNKS - This is a standard component. Possible uses of this space include providing informational links and a map title.

  • TOOLBAR - This is an optional section that includes buttons that help the user interact with the map or perform mapping or analysis tasks. A legend could also be presented in this space.

  • MAP - This is a standard component. The background data are provided by Google. However, you may add your own data on top.

  • TASKS AND FREE TEXT - This section is reserved for informational text and form-based functions.

  • FOOTER - This is a standard option and will always include a University of Delaware logo or identifying text. You can add contact information or citations here.

  • OVERVIEW MAP - The overview map is a standard component and shows the the current area being viewed and the entire geographic extent of the data available in the GeoViewer site.
