Staff specialties include:

  • experimental and survey data collection and management;
  • image database management;
  • data analysis, modeling, presentation and visualization;
  • scientific application software environments;
  • GIS software and applications;
  • innovative uses of Internet2.

There are three areas in which RDMS supports online mapping:

Data

There are numerous datasets available from different agencies that come in varying formats. It's often hard to know where to start. RDMS can help you download data from the Internet, manage data in commercial or open source databases, convert data to new formats, or design data collection strategies. While RDMS does not maintain an extensive data archive (with exception of US Census data, Delaware aerial imagery and ESRI-supplied data), our staff can recommend where to find appropriate data. Visit the Data page for a listing of popular GIS data and data sources.

Mapping

RDMS staff can help you import spatial and non-spatial data into GIS projects. Staff members will help you render a map customized with the features and visual representations you choose. This includes colors of points, lines, and polygons, labeling of features, and rendering features based on map-scale. Maps may be created in ESRI's products (ArcMap, ArcView 3.x), XML or KML files, or in many other packages.

Application Development

RDMS staff will do the bulk of the work if you use our web site templates for online mapping. The staff will consult with you on the underlying technologies (JavaScript, Flash, DHTML, form processing, graphic design) for a turn-key site or one that you take the lead role in developing.
