William McLain
Bill McLain has lived in Newark since for decades.  He is a history buff and currently serves as President of the Newark Historical Society.

The "New" Newark High School and the University of Delaware

ROBERT E. LUMPKIN

Robert Lumpkin was a junior in high school when his family moved from south Jersey to the Brookside neighborhood of Newark over the 1956 Thanksgiving holiday. On Monday after the holiday he started classes at Newark Senior High School. After graduating in 1958, Robert then attended the University of Delaware.  He graduated from UD in 1962 with degree in chemical engineering.

RUTH ALFORD on changes in the 1950s and 60s

Ruth Alford came to Newark from Minot, North Dakota in 1945, just after World War Two ended, to work as a staff librarian at the University of Delaware. The university and the City of Newark grew rapidly in the decades after the war as the baby-boomer generation entered college. She retired in 1973.

Dr.Quaesita Drake was a chemistry professor at the University of Delaware from 1917 to 1955. When Delaware College and the Women's College consolidated she became the Chair of the Department of Chemistry. When she had free time she enjoyed exploring the countryside around the campus.

VANCE FUNK III

Vance Funk III was born in Philadelphia in 1942 and moved to Newark with his family in 1959, during his senior year of high school. He graduated from the University of Delaware and went on to obtain a law degree.  In the 1970s he was the city judge of Newark. Currently he is serving his second term as Mayor of Newark.

DONNA MOORE COOLEY

Donna Moore grew up in the Nottingham Green neighborhood of Newark and attended John R. Downes Elementary School. She graduated from Newark High School in 1976.  At the age of 22 she moved to Alaska, where she still lives today.
